Bealls and Palais Royal are full service department stores which typically occupy 18,000 - 25,000 square feet. The owner of this chain, Stage Stores Inc., called on Gotsdiner Architects to develop a new image for their stores, which could be used to update existing locations or create new stores. The resulting design relies on a palette of warm earth-tone finishes which update the look of these stores. Attention to detail, such as redesigning and raising the light valence around the perimeter of the space, provides a new scale to the previously claustrophobic store. The design team, while anxious to develop a new image, was also sensitive to the budget and the expectations of the clientele.
